TOPIC: curving ribs on a mandolin
#1016
curving ribs on a mandolin 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm working from a John Troughton book containing plans for a flat-top mandolin.
He mentions to curve the ribs at the neck end and gives the distance of deviation for the belly and back edges but doesn't say where the curve should start from.

Should the curve start from the heel end and be gentle & constant towards the neck or should the radius of curve decrease the closer you get to the neck. Should there be a flat section at the heel end (that instinctively sounds wrong).

Does it matter?

Thanks

J.
