OK I have been a good boy and read through all the stuff on finishing, however not found much detail obn creating the perfect sunburst.
So what do I need?
How many tins of each?
What are the rules of thumb for getting the perfect sunburst?
Any techy stuff thats not in the rest of this forum?

Project: Tele Thineline style, Ash/Maple. Would like to have kept the thing natural but the lamination will make it look naff, plus there is a bit of breakout that had to be filled when i drilled the jack socket hole, hence the sunburst..

You can use a water based black stain to just black out the edge of the body - you then need to go through a sealing process (sanding sealer if using aerosol cans)
you can then go through the burst stages;

do the black first - keep close the edges on the back and front, go over the areas already blacked out with waterbased stain carefully - try not to get over spray on the back and front

follow with cherry red overlapping the black previously applied, the more you apply the darker the red will be

Go over the back and front with either amber or nicotine to add the final colour to the body.

When you happy with the colours, start the lacquer process.

Light coats, especialy when applying the burst, do not flat back between colour coats - only flat back sealer coats and allow several coats of lacquer before thinking about flatting back or you will rub through to the colour coats.

The amount you need entirely depends on how much you need to apply - and your ability.
