Spray gear question 10 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi everyone, Not been on here much, 'specially lately, been really busy, but NOT with guitars
Got a question about spray equipment. I'm going to get a compressor and gun and stuff, fed up using aerosols and I want to be a bit more versatile. What would you recommend I get?
Fairly basic tech info will do for now, such as min pressure output, capacity etc, and type/size of nozzles and stuff. It'll mainly ( I think) be a two part finish for guitars, but there'll be other stuff too. I've got to re-spray a wing for my daughters car, and at some stage I'll want to do metal flake type finish too.
Any info will be really helpful.
It's on a REALLY tight budget, which doesn't help.
Cheers.

A fair size compressor would be a good start, around 35 cfm would be good.
You'll need a water trap on the compressor and depending on how long your air line is maybe another inline.

The type of guns you'll need will depend on what material you intend to use.
I generally use gravity fed for guitars and use small touch up type guns for stains and sunbursts - there's loys of cheap stuff around now but it would do you good to buy decent guns, keep them clean and maintained and they'll last for years.

Thanks DMG, I now know the minimum I need to go for, so anything over that will be a bonus.
Cheers.

Hi, I'm new here, just thought I's try and help a little, I've been using compressors and guns for the past 4 years and now couldn't live without them. Clarke Air provide everything you'd need, great compressors and loads of guns varying in sizes and feeding methods. A gravity fed gun takes less air pressure to pump out the paint than a suction fed. My old faithful compressor just died so I had to buy another rapidly but I bought a cheaper less powerful model..mistake...My suction guns don't work properly now so I've had to invest in a range of gravity fed guns, these work great.
I still use airbrushes for smaller jobs such as sunbursts and stains and still achieve a good finish with these using a smaller table top compressor.
Probably havn't helped but I thought I'd try. Rock on, Rob@DD

Cheers Rob,
That's had to be put on hold for a while, due to the old cashflow situation, but it's useful for when I do get one.
